This is my sad, pathetic little "LTTP" post of things I'd love to get my hands on, and I'm hoping I might find help among you, my friends. First up is a Mario Christmas ornament such as this. Seems I missed when it came out, and they're a might difficult to find now. And it seems most pages, like this, lead in circles back around to Amazon or this place, where it's sold out. There are a couple on eBay, but the seller wants four times the price, and I'm trying to explore other options first before caving. If you know where I can find one at a more reasonable rate, I'd appreciate a nudge in the proper direction. In addition, I've had the worst run of luck with these Balloon Fight swinger charms. I finally decide to buy them at Otakon, and no sooner than I do that than they stop showing up. And then Amazon.com sells out, too! And as above, it seems that searching for shops which sell them online just leads me in circles back to Amazon, with none on eBay that I've seen. :P So, if you can point me in a good direction, I'd love to see it. Or, you know, if you want to part with either in good condition for a reasonable fee, that's good by me, too. --LBD "Nytetrayn"

Shortpacked!@TNI: Year in review.Shortpacked!: Mail Bag Week! Hey, look! My Uncle Jon is holding my awesome new T-Rex Squishable. Maggie got it for me for Christmas because she knows this is the closest I'll ever get to being able to wrap my arms around Ryan North every night. Not that he wouldn't let me, it's just the distance, you see. I should let it hang out with the house's growing collection of webcomics non-book merchandise, like my Monica statue, my Diablo action figure, and my Joyce plush and Maggie's Jinxlet plush. T-Rex will stomp them all. Gently. As today's strip infers, I've been taking questions from my fellow Twitterers and answering them in comic strip form. It's something I haven't done before, but I'm enjoying it thoroughly, as I get to address some small things that may otherwise not appear in the comic. I still have some strips for the latter half of the week to do, so it's not too late to submit questions. It's a good format for this week, what with the low panel count and the no coloring, since I'm helping my pal Graham move out of his apartment to his new one, right up until the New Year. It's funny, because as he noted to me today, at this stage in his moving process, I'm basically the only other person around who can actually help him. Who else is going to be able to know what boxes to put which Transformers, so as to keep them ordered by toyline? No one but me, that's who! Because I'm a dork. http://www.markprindle.com/vanhalea.htmTo: Mark Prindle Subject: Van Halen - Best Of Volume One (Warner Brothers 1996) Hey it's a week away from 2010 and do people still write comments for your reviews? Well me and my brother Josh who used to comment on reviews all the time back when we listened to music were reading some good old Prindle today, because your reviews are still great. HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There was one glaring omission from your Van Halen reviews, and indeed the entire Van Halen page. Do a search for the word "tornado" on the Van Halen page, yes you Mark, or even anyone reading this. Go ahead do it. You will find the only reference is like some old ass one that Josh made, which was after we heard the tornado story. It seems no one has ever told "the tornado story" on your Van Halen page ever. It is time to finally right this wrong. Well actually it's about 5 years too late to right this wrong, but I guess it might as well be done. :( A number of years ago my brother and I had heard the ultimate story, revealed by sammy himself in some music mag interview, that pretty much sums up sammy "shammy" "chamois" "the *red* roKKKer" "gaygar" hagar's career, aside from comparing him to a dumb permanent 12 year old, or comparing his =VH= \m/ career to turning the band from awesome groundbreaking rock music to Billy Joel adult contemporary pop garbitch. The story goes like this: Around the time they were doing the soundtrack to Twister, a movie about tornadoes (according to my spellchecker that's the plural), they were deciding, hey, what should we, VAN HALEN, have to say about tornadoes? Well actually no they were just going to write a song for the soundtrack, however there was a catch. It was Sammy's job to write the lyrics (I don't know why anyone on this planet would trust Sammy to write lyrics, his song lyrics are among the worst and unintentionally cheesiest in music history). Eddie sat Sammy down and told him straight out, "whatever you do, DO NOT WRITE A SONG ABOUT TORNADOES." The producer came in and talked to sammy and told him, do not under any circumstances come in and write a song about tornadoes. The late great Michael Crichton came in, ducked under the doorway (he was really tall), and said, "Mr. Red Rocker, whatever you do, please do not write a song about tornadoes." Stephen Spielberg came in and said "hey sammy, don't write a song about tornadoes okay?" It goes on like that. The point was, they had to tell sammy specifically not to write a song about tornadoes. So, 15 minutes later, sammy comes out of his writing room and says HEY GUYS I WROTE AN AWESOME SONG, IT'S ABOUT TORNADOES. So Eddie rewrote the song. The end. Alternate version: Sammy comes out of his room and says HEY GUYS I WROTE A SONG ABOUT GETTING DRUNK AND BEATING UP MY 13 YEAR OLD GIRLFRIEND WITH FISTFULS OF COCAINE, WOOOOO AAAAAAAOW YEAHHHHHHHH! WHY DON'T YOU SIT ON MY THANG SISTA! Actual real story: I don't think Sammy was actually told not to write a song about tornadoes, although it's possible he was, but when he wrote the lyrics he made reference to "the suck zone" which he heard from seeing an early cut of the movie, one of the characters mentions it because it's in reference to a tornado, and sammy actually thought it was a really cool phrase, because he's like a 12 year old trapped in a 50 year old alcoholic's body. And it did lead to the lyrics being chopped out and Eddie rewriting the song himself. Anyway this story, which is mostly embellished by my brother and I (our version is better than the real one I think), has colored our opinion of sammy for years, but to be honest I don't think it comes close to encapsulating the cliched self parody hack rock that sammy used to completely ruin a once original and great rock band. Although to be honest we do like "Humans Being," it's kind of a cool song. The end (for real). Here is a cat face to sign off with. :3 PS: Happy Christmas and new year Pirdnul. It doesn't matter that Mass Effect 2 is coming out next month. After using my GameStop gift cards and a bit of my Christmas cash today, I come out of the Christmas season with four new games: Mario Galaxy, Arkham Asylum, Lost Odyssey, and Fallout 3.
With the exception of Bioshock 2 in February cuz I've had it reserved since flippin' July, I HAVE to be done buying games until LEGO Potter. I just have so much of a backlog to work with, there's no reason for me to need any others. The four above, plus Beatles Rock Band, Ultimate Alliance, Gears of War, Dead Space... I think I have plenty to work with.
Of course, I might break that. There's a deal at GameStop where you can get $20 towards the purchase of anything in the store with a selected trade-in. Assassin's Creed II is buying for $28 right now, so I dunno if that's instead of the $20, or if they'll give me $28 plus $20 if I trade for something that day. Might be Wiimote battery packs, might be one more game. Time will tell when I get there. All I know is that I won['t be playing AC2 again for a while, might as well trade it in now while it's hot and rebuy it later when I can get it for $25 or $20.
Meanwhile, HBP's swapped out for widescreen. Half-Price Books has a deal going this weekend for 20% off everything in the store in addition to the half price or less that the books usually are, so I snagged some Pratchett, an Ultimate Spider-Man (the tpb with Shadowcat in non-Xmen superhero mode), a hiragana/katakana book, and the first two Dark Tower books (cuz my DM and his wife own Waste Lands for a reason they don't know and have never read the series). I wanted to pick up a D&D guide, too, so I had my own at meetings, but they didn't have 3.5 available.
Tomorrow: more Christmas with my mom's side of the fam (I made an eclair cake, rock), then possibly Sherlock tomorrow night.
Monday and Tuesday? OFF OF WORK! WOO! I'm gonna start taking notes for the next chapter tonight, and will hopefully start it up by the time my extended weekend's over. Then again, Mario Galaxy's kinda hooking me.
